Welcome to Year 1
In Year 1 we look after each other, always have a go, do our best and we work hard to be the best we can be!
We have a busy curriculum planned. Our topics will include work on historical figures such as Guy Fawkes; science work on humans and animals; seasonal activities each half term; an exploration of Hebden Bridge and the valley that houses it, as well as whole school projects on Festivals, One Picture, and the Seaside.
We contrinue with our broad topic this half term of Ourselves. We will start by finding out why we celebrate Bonfire Night and investigate who Guy Fawkes was. We will explore how life 400 years ago was very different from today and learn how we collect information about the past through books and artefacts. We will be using Power of Reading resources to explore the book The Robot and the Bluebird. We will learn how to infer information from pictures and text to develop character, we will imagine what our robot is thinking and feeling and we will be searching non-fiction texts to investigate robots and find out how to look after birds in our gardens and playground this winter. We will use our knowledge to design our own robots and also learn more about creating and debugging algorithms for programmable toys in the classroom. As Christmas draws nearer we will find out how Christmas is celebrated in other countries and be designing Christmas cards with moveable parts. We will also be singing our hearts out as we learn new songs for the Christmas Performances!
