Welcome to Woodland Class

In Woodland Class we look after each other and our environment. We always try our best and persevere when things get a bit tricky. We know that making learning stick takes lots of practice so we keep on trying hard.

Summer 1

Why is a tiger not like a turtle?

This half term we will be learning about how scientists identify and classify different animals. We will be learning what an animal is, and then using scientific criteria to compare and contrast mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects. We will also learn how to identify whether animals are carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, predators or prey.

We will use the book Katie in London, by James Mayhew, to learn to sequence events in a story and write a letter to recount some of the exciting things Katie did on her trip. We will be learning about the geography of the UK and London in particular and exploring some of the sights and landmarks. We will learn how to compare London with Hebden Bridge.

In Maths we will be learning how to identfy, make and count equal groups of 2s, 5s and 10s. We will then learn how to halve and quarter shapes and quantities equally. We will also be learning to talk about position and direction and use this information to learn to program a beebot round a simple map of London.

Home Learning

How can you help your child? Each week the children will bring home:

  • a new reading book

  • a book from the school library that they have chosen

  • and sometimes a maths challenge for the weekend.

Remote Learning

Class Dojo will be used as the main platform for remote learning if part or whole school closure is required. Some resources may need to be uploaded to this class page and we will direct families if needed. Please ensure you login and check Class Dojo every day to access a wide range of cross curricular home learning activities.
