Welcome to Woodland Class

In Woodland Class we look after each other and our environment. We always try our best and persevere when things get a bit tricky. We know that making learning stick takes lots of practice so we keep on trying hard.

Summer 1

Why aren’t bridges made out of paper?

In History this half term we will be learning about how our town has changed in the last 200 years. We will focus on changes on Market Street, the mills and the Packhorse Bridge. Using photographic evidence from Alice Longstaff’s archive we will learn about life and work in the town, in the mills and then compare it to Hebden Bridge today.

In Science we return to learning about materials but will explore the properties of different construction materials and choose the best materials to make strong and stable buildings and bridges.

We will explore and learn about the folk artist, Heather Galler, and use inspiration from her bright, patterned paintings to create our own landscape of our town.

“We learned about the self-portraits of Julian Opie and Andy Warhol and what colour says about the artist. We took photos of each other and traced the features onto acetate. We painted the reverse image with acrylic to create “unrealistic” images which reflect our personality.”

Home Learning

How can you help your child? Each week the children will bring home:

  • a new reading book

  • a book from the school library that they have chosen

  • and sometimes a maths challenge for the weekend.

Remote Learning

Class Dojo will be used as the main platform for remote learning if part or whole school closure is required. Some resources may need to be uploaded to this class page and we will direct families if needed. Please ensure you login and check Class Dojo every day to access a wide range of cross curricular home learning activities.
